Trim starting

The trim started today. Here is part of the trim package that was delivered:





Here are two of the cabinets that will be used in the mudroom.


All of the doors have been installed and the trim around the doors.

Court Insulation Installed

We installed the furring strips and insulation into the court. Now we're ready to install the OSB and Drywall that will cover it up.

The drywall is getting closer to being finished.

Drywall Starting

The drywall crew is hanging today. They're making really good progress. I wouldn't be surprised if they were done by tomorrow with this phase.

Upcoming schedule

With the framing, insulation, low voltage, electrical, plumbing and HVAC inspections out of the way, we can hopefully get this project moving again. The next steps are:

The drywall crew starts on Tuesday morning. Here is the schedule of the critical path items for the two months:

Sept 12- Drywall Done
Sept 22 - Painting Done
Sept 22 - Oct 17 - Interior Trim / finish carpentry
Oct 10 - Oct 24 – Flooring

Insulation Complete

Insulation inspection took about a week to get approval on. The majority of the issues the inspectors were concerned about were firestopping between the floors. They had us close up any penetrations where a fire could get oxygen from inside the walls.

We spent a lot of time figuring out what type of insulation we wanted to use. The choices ranged from traditional fiberglass batts, to blown fiberglass, to cementitious foam to open and closed cell blown foams. Each had their pros and cons, but we settled on the following:

Batt insulation for the garage spaces:

- It's cheap to fill up a big area and you're less likely to have problems with air intrusion when it is used in the garage.







- Wet blown cellulose for the rest of the house including the attic, between the basement and first floor, in the walls around the home theater and in the wall between the court and the house.

Cellulose is about the same price as fiberglass but is superior in a lot of ways

• It's blown in, so there aren't spaces and voids around wires, pipes and utility boxes to let air and sound in
• It's denser than fiberglass - this makes it much more resistant to air intrusion
• It's a much better sound dampener than fiberglass
• The borax that it's treated with makes it more fire resistant than fiberglass batts.

Brick work done

The exterior is almost complete. The masons finished the brick work and we've got the exterior ready to paint. We should be able to paint this week and basically be done with the outside of the house.

The exterior trim and the hardiplank is almost done. The bricks are going up this next week.

Windows In

The windows were installed today. With them in, we're starting to get a much better sense of what the finished house will look like.

The garage floor should be poured tomorrow. There was one minor issue when it was inspected today that was resolved.

Playtime

I guess we're going to take this playset with us to the new house, at least if these two have any say in it.

Roof is on

The roofers managed to put the roof on in only two days. They had a pretty good sized crew and just knocked it out.

The sewer went in today as well. Rough plumbing should start next week.

Roof close to finished

The 18"+ of snow we had last weekend slowed things down, but it is finally melted and some progress has been made the last couple of days.

A roof!

We finally got a roof today! The enormous crane that was brought in got stuck, but the job was done. We're bringing in roofers early next week.

Ready for the roof

After two weeks of crappy weather that slowed the framing down to a crawl, it looks like we're ready to put the roof on. The crane will be coming this afternoon or first thing Tuesday morning.

Gray Helps Build the House

Gray has asked us constantly if he can "go help build the house". Today he got a chance to help - I took him out with his plastic tool set and he helped the framers for a while. I didn't put up the pictures of him with the nail gun - I figured Grandma wouldn't like those. :)
